It’s true that it’s customary for guests of the wedding ceremony to participate in the sendoff by rallying together and shouting celebratory remarks while tossing or waving this and that. Over the years, customs have changed to accommodate nature and property owners, with everyone remembering the outcry against rice because of its unfortunate affect on local aviary populations (birds can’t eat rice), but since then, the race has been on for brides and grooms to come up with unique and diverse ways for their loved ones to help send them off. To help guide you through some popular ideas before your big day, here is a list of favorite grand exits and toss items that may just inspire you.
Rah-Rah!
If your wedding is one to rival a stadium full of cheering fans, because lets face it, your fans are way better and more loyal than any team could ever have, then why not use ribbon wands, pom-poms, foam fingers, rally towels, and/or noisemakers to celebrate your knot becoming tied. No one supports a team better than it’s hard core fans, which is why personalized sports-themed items can be the perfect way for your friends and family to celebrate the strongest new team they know, you!
Party like it’s 1999
If you can’t wait to get the party started, why wait? Give out things like fiber optic wands, glow sticks, and more to give your guests the chance to shine some light on your love. Not only are they mess free, but they also double as handy reception props. Ceremony’s that take place in the evening will end in a barrage of beautifully customizable colors, and the kids will love collecting and playing with them throughout the reception. Two for one!
Harmlessly Natural
Some people prefer a more sophisticated or natural approach, which is just as wonderful and can be incredibly beautiful. Popular choices remain bubbles, flower pedals, leaves, paper cones filled with fragrant herbs like lavender, feathers, “eco-fetti” (eco friendly, biodegradable, water soluble confetti), and even a few well-crafted flags. These options also offer the easiest cleanup, if any is needed at all, and make brides and grooms feel good about their environmental consciousness.
Honorable Mentions
Everyone has different tastes. Some people’s dream is to have people holding light sabers as they exit their wedding chapel, whereas some may want paper lanterns. Beach balls, ice cream sprinkles, paper airplanes, pop out streamers, water-soluble snow, specialized sparkler fountains, doves or other birds, and so many more are all viable options for your send off. In most cases your creativity is practically limitless, all you need to do is be sure of what it is that you want.
Just be sure to remember that in all cases, you should speak with your venue about what it is that they allow and prohibit, as well as the safety implications of your choice. Sparkler fountains are stunning but they can also be fire hazards, bubbles are gentle and harmless but get thousands of them in an enclosed space and soon everyone will be drenched in the sticky liquid, and everyone already knows the unpleasant side effects of glitter and confetti, so use at your own discretion.
