When you dreamed of what your wedding would be like when you were little, you probably never considered when it would be, other than a specific season or time of year. Now that you’re actually planning your wedding for real, you have to think about which day of the week it will be. Traditions and scheduling conflicts may have you leaning toward a Saturday, since Saturday’s seem to be the easiest day of the week for many people to plan around, but there a two major reasons as to why you should opt out of the hype and choose a non-Saturday wedding date.
Price
With as many as 70% of couples picking Saturday as their wedding day, it can make locking down that particular day with venues and vendors astronomically more expensive. As you are forced to compete with other couples craving that coveted day of the week, the cost of everything from your wedding chapel and flowers to your catering and photographers is sure to go up, while the quality stays the same regardless of what day of the week it is. Don’t spend your entire budget on ensuring you get a Saturday wedding, spend it on better food, better photographs, and better everything else. You won’t regret the decision.
Availability
The increase in price for venues and vendors is guaranteed for Saturday events, but their availability is not. Again, you will be competing with every unimaginative couple in your area, for something as silly as a weekend that ultimately won’t make that much of a difference. Saturdays are great, but chances are you will be leaving for your honeymoon afterwards anyway so why does it matter? Why not pick the least busy day of the week to strategically ensure that your favorite florist, photographer, officiant, caterer, and more, are free and clear to dedicate all their time to making your wedding is the most special it can be. Without the added stress of dealing with multiple events in one day on your vendor’s shoulders, you might just end up with better quality than what you would have gotten on a Saturday anyway, and more for your money is always a bonus. Plus, all of your guests will love the idea of taking a Monday off of work to do something fun!
People often pick Saturdays simply because it seems more convenient, but with price and availability considerations, why not just let your wedding day be the excuse you need to help your friends and family enjoy a long weekend?
